Teach at UIS!
Yes, we are always looking for teachers for various subjects and grade levels! Because many of our teachers return to their passport countries for home assignment every few years (anywhere from a semester to a year at a time), it is actually important to have even more teachers than we would need otherwise. We are generally looking for teachers in almost every area, but for a current list of our most critical needs, click here!
Keep in mind, because it can take a while to get everything in order, it’s good to start the process early!
Does UIS actually need teachers?
As a teacher at UIS, you will be using your talents and skills to directly support missionary families and the cause of Bible translation in Papua New Guinea! Though UIS teachers do not receive a salary in the traditional sense of the word, they are supported with prayer and finances by a team of churches and individuals in their passport countries.
We prefer that our teachers be affiliated with a mission organization that provides support and helps coordinate partnership development, benefits, and the many other aspects of serving overseas as a supported missionary. While many of our teachers have historically served with Wycliffe Bible Translators, our current primary recruiting and sending partner is TeachBeyond. Occasionally teachers come with other organizations such as MAF, Pioneer Bible Translators, and others. Contact us to see if we have an existing relationship with your organization!
Be on Mission for God
As teachers at a private Christian school, and as members of a tight-knit community, we are able to share the Gospel and have deep, meaningful conversations with our students both inside and outside the classroom.
Professional Development funds are available for advanced degrees, courses needed to gain or maintain certification, and job-skill development. Applications are accepted twice per school year for these funds.
Our faculty and staff is an amazing group of professionals who desire to serve the Lord through children’s education. We would love to talk to you about how you might fit into our team!
We are confident that you will discover what we already know, that UIS is a Great Place to Teach!!
Tell me a bit about the environment …
“After 20 years here, I can unreservedly recommend UIS to prospective teachers and families. For me, teaching is a tool of discipleship as I help my students become who God means them to be, and I do this with partnership, friendship, collaboration, and support from fellow teachers, parents, and students. I really like my students! The small school set in a small town means it’s really hard to fall through the cracks here. The robust support of my admin buttresses my ministry as I use my gifts teaching middle school and high school classes. I really respect my teacher colleagues, and am proud to be on a team with them.”
