The UIS curriculum is an English-language curriculum developed from North American, Australian, and European programs. As much as possible, our goal is to meet the needs of our international community as they move back and forth between PNG and their passport countries.

Curriculum
Courses Offered
Primary Campus (Kindergarten - Grade 5):
Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Spelling): Savvas MyView Literacy (Grades 1-4), Letterland (K-2), Zaner-Bloser Handwriting
Mathematics: iReady Mathematics
Science: Delta Science Modules
Social Studies: UIS-developed country studies
Bible: Specials classes are also offered as teachers are available, including Library, Art, Music, Computers, Physical Education and Social-Emotional Learning (Friendzy Biblical SEL Program).
Specials: Depending on instructor availability, students take weekly specials such as Library, Music, PE, Computer, and Social-Emotional Learning. Vocal and Instrumental music groups are also available for students in the upper grades.
Middle School (Grades 6-8):
Language Arts: Middle school Language Arts classes include Literature circles, Grammar, Spelling, Vocabulary, and Composition
Mathematics: iReady Mathematics (grades 6 and 7) and Algebra I (grade 8)
Science: Basic Science Skills; Prentice Hall Science Explorer Series including Environmental Science, Biology, Physics, Earth Science, Earth’s Waters, Astronomy
Social Studies & Christian Religious Studies: Geography (grade 6); Western Civilisation I (grade 7); Western Civilisation II (Grade 8), all taught in conjunction with Religious Studies
Physical Education and Health
Electives: Intermediate band and Middle School choir
Practical Arts: A rotation of practical and expressive arts classes is offered (depending on teacher availability) such as Middle School Orientation, Word Processing, Desktop Publishing, Public Speaking, Introduction to Spanish; Introduction to ASL; Introduction to Theatre, Art, Home Economics, Cooking, and Woodworking.
High School (Grades 9-12):
In each department, additional electives may be offered depending on teacher availability.
English:
Grades 9 and 10 include literature analysis in a variety of genres, grammar, vocabulary, and composition (dialogues, journals, memoirs, screenplays, short essays, research and source citation skills), speech skills, and formal debate.
Grade 11 and 12 students can choose between grade-level English classes and AP courses including American Literature; British Literature; AP Literature and Composition; AP Language and Composition
Mathematics: Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Statistics
Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology; depending on teacher availability, UIS may offer AP science classes.
Social Studies: World Geography, US History, World History and Modern World History, US Government, AP World History
Personal Finance: Consumer Economics
Christian Religious Studies: Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, Apologetics, Worldviews
Computing and Technology: Computer Studies, Computer Applications
Physical Education and Health
Foreign language: Spanish I; Spanish II (other languages such as French, German, and Japanese have been offered when teachers have been available)
Electives: Other electives are offered based on teacher availability and may include: Band, Choir, Computer Programming, Computer-Aided Design, Advanced Theatre, Ceramics, Digital Photography, Visual Arts, Sewing, Cooking, Music Theory, Metal Shop, Wood Shop, Auto Basics, Small Engines, Yearbook, Driver’s Education, and work study programs.
