School Calendar

UIS runs on a modified year-round, northern hemisphere school schedule with the school year beginning in late July and ending in early June.  The year is divided into two semesters, each made up of two “terms.”  Students at both campuses receive a report card at the end of each term.  Below is a typical calendar of events

Term 1: Late July through late September

  • New Student Orientation (Secondary)

  • Open House (Primary and Secondary)

  • MAP testing

  • Secondary Sports (Boys’ Volleyball, Girls’ Rugby), Eastern Highlands Sports Tournament, Invitational tournament

  • Choir and Band concerts

  • High School Spiritual Retreat (sponsored by SIL-PNG Youth Ministry; not a school event)

Term 2: Early October through mid-December

  • PSAT, SAT, and ACT testing (Secondary)

  • Middle School Retreat (sponsored by SIL-PNG Youth Ministry) or Middle School Field Trip

  • Secondary Sports (Boys’ Soccer, Girls’ Basketball), Eastern Highlands Sports Tournament, Invitational tournament

  • Choir and Band Christmas concerts

  • Semester cumulative exams (High School)

  • Empty Christmas Tree (community service project)

  • Senior Trip (sponsored by parents; not a school event)

Term 3: mid-January through late March

  • Invitational Sports Tournament (Secondary)

  • Book Festival (Primary)

  • Secondary Sports (Boys’ Basketball, Girls’ Soccer), Eastern Highlands Sports Tournament, Invitational tournament

  • Choir and Band concerts

  • High School play or musical

  • International Math Modeling Challenge (IMMC)

Term 4: early April through early-June

  • Secondary Sports (Boys’ Rugby, Girls’ Volleyball, Track & Field), Eastern Highlands Sports Tournament, Invitational tournament

  • MAP Testing

  • Talent Night (Secondary)

  • AP Exams

  • Grade 8 play

  • UIS Invitational Sports Tournament

  • Sports Days (Primary and Secondary, separately)

  • Junior/Senior Banquet (sponsored by parents; not a school event)

  • Choir and Band concerts

  • Awards Night (Secondary)

  • Grade 12 Graduation and Reception
